SFA Wind Ensemble concert features guest conductor


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Dr. Milton Allen, director of bands at Eastern Illinois University, will guest conduct the Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble during its concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Under Allen's baton, the ensemble will present Kenneth Hesketh's "Masque" and Pavel Tschesnokoff's "Salvation is Created."

"Milt has been a great friend since he student taught with me over 20 years ago," said Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands. "He will bring a lot of personality and energy to the podium, both during the concert and the next day when he serves as the clinician for our Coducting Symposium."

Other pieces on the program include Samuel Barber's "Commando March" and Percy Grainger's "Lincolnshire Posey," conducted by Fred J. Allen. Lafayette, La., graduate student Corey Daniel will guest conduct Richard Wagner's "Trauermusik."

The concert is a joint presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music.
