Dr. Dan Angel was named the sixth president of SFA on June 16, 1992. The former Michigan state representative began his SFA tenure living in Gibbs Hall while the president’s house was undergoing renovation. With degrees from Wayne State University, Angel earned a Ph.D. in communication from Purdue University in 1965. He led SFA’s first major fund-raising initiative (leading to an expansion of academic scholarships), and the creation of a new doctorate in educational leadership, new master’s degree programs and the School of Social Work. Upon his resignation from SFA in 1999, Angel became president of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.
