SFA Music Preparatory recitals scheduled throughout December


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The fall recitals for students enrolled in the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music get underway this weekend.

Music major instructors' piano students and students of Dr. Mario Ajero will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the Music Recital Hall of the Wright Music Building. Also that day, music major instructors' string students will perform at 4 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Two outstanding Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members will be honored during the 27th annual SFA Gala Saturday, Dec. 12, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

State Rep. John Zerwas to offer SFA commencement address


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - State Rep. John Zerwas, M.D., will offer the commencement address during Stephen F. Austin State University's fall graduation ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 19.

Serving his fifth legislative term, Zerwas represents the Texas House of Representatives' District 28, which includes northwestern Fort Bend County, one of the fastest-growing regions in Texas. He serves as chairman of the House Committee on Higher Education and is an advocate for increasing access to higher education and growing opportunities for graduate medical education.

SFA Gardens to host holiday wreath-making seminar


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA Gardens will host a garden seminar "Deck the Halls-Using Evergreens to Decorate for the Holidays" from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 5, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

Holiday concert to feature Christmas portion of 'Messiah'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The combined choirs at Stephen F. Austin State University, along with the Orchestra of the Pines, will present SFA's traditional holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the university campus.

SFA's Latin Lumberjacks to perform salsa-influenced program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Latin Lumberjacks ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The Latin Lumberjacks is comprised of members of the Sound Recording Technology program within the SFA School of Music. Directed by Luigi Lazareno, music faculty member, the group will perform a variety of popular songs in salsa style.

SFA's Rockin' Axes to perform 'The Sounds of the '70s'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Rockin' Axes at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the program "The Sounds of the '70s" when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The concert will feature the music of the widely popular Stevie Wonder; the Bee Gees; Kansas; Billy Joel; the Eagles; Earth, Wind and Fire; and others.

SFA theatre students to present 'Bobby Gould in Hell'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed "Bobby Gould in Hell" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

Baytown senior theatre major Stephen Davis directs David Mamet's one-act play that examines the life of the title character and his past sins after he dies and is in the waiting room of hell.

'Inocente' documentary presents snapshot of homeless children in America


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Inocente" at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

"Inocente" is a personal and vibrant coming of age documentary about a young artist's fierce determination to never surrender to the bleakness of her surroundings, according to information at inocentedoc.com.
