"This picture is where Joe Oliver lived, in the early 1900s had a syrup mill where you took sugar cane to get made into syrup. [You had to] Feed cane by hand [and] juice ran into a big pan about 14' X 12' to make syrup to eat. A horse or mule pulled [a] pole on top of [the] crusher to get [the] juice to cook. If too much cane was fed by hand into crusher, [the] mule or horse could not pull it."
