Title: Granny Ruth's House
"My Grandmother Ruth Grant Mena lived here and my great grandfather Henry Grant before that. I loved to visit but my mom rarely let us stay over because she didn't like her and didn't want us hanging out with our cousins we weren't allowed to claim. She also served us apple cider and coffee (1/3rd coffee, 1/3rd cream, and 1/3rd honey) which my mom said would stunt our growth! My Grandmother Ruth always had a menagerie of plants and animals and waked us one night chopping a chicken snake with an axe while my sister and I slept on the couch in the dog trot hallway. The snake was eating one of her baby ducks from a cardboard box nearby. The axe marks stayed in the floor forever. She always had assorted little wind chimes hanging on the porches that I can still hear."
