Architectural Survey
Scarborough Hall is a four-story Gothic Revival structure with a steeply pitched roof. Stairs lead up to the entry doors on the main facade and pointed arch, stained glass windows are situated above the doors. On each side of the main facade there is a bay with arched windows as well but these additions have a hipped roof.
Marshall Hall is a four-story Beaux Arts structure with seven bays across the facade. Two sets of stairs lead to the main entrance which is covered by a decorative gabled crown. Four columns sit within the wall on the above the entrance on the third and fourth floor. Marshall Hall is the oldest buildling on campus.
Linebarry Hall is a tw-story Colonial Revival structure with a full width porch the height of the building supported by six columns. Eight bays cover the front facade on both levels.
Historical Background
The College of Marshall was organized in Marshall in 1912 opening its doors for the first time in 1917 with Dr. T.C. Gardner as the president. He was succeeded by Dr. H.E. Watters, who selected the first faculty. In 1944, the name was changed to East Texas Baptist College, and then East Texas Baptist University in 1984. (
