African American Education Project
In the summer of 2009 Dr. Perky Beisel, 5 graduate students in history (Chris Elzen, Ryan Gullett, Nathan Copling, John Hannah, and Mike Godfrey), and 2 undergraduate students (Cassandra Bennett and Joyce Preston) spent 336 hours transcribing 56 oral interviews conducted by members of the AAM's Archives and Oral History Program between 1986 and 2009. This project was funded by the Center for Regional Heritage Research and the Department of History. Copies of the transcripts are available to the public in the
East Texas Research Center. The AAM has the original transcripts and videos. In order to learn more, please visit the
African American Museum website.
