The voice of the students 

The Student Government Association is the representative body of SFA students and is made up of and administered entirely by students. Its purposes are to serve as the voice of the SFA student body and as a model government (executive, legislative and judicial branches) while fostering leadership development.

Meeting Information

The SGA Senate meets biweekly in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Commons, Room 3.201, on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. These meetings are open to the student body. Students wishing to speak will be given five minutes before the meeting’s adjournment. If a student would like to speak longer than five minutes, they should contact the SGA Speaker via email at sgaspeaker@sfasu.edu to be placed on the meeting’s agenda as soon as possible. Students wishing to attend the meeting via Zoom should email studentgovernment@sfasu.edu as soon as possible for the link to join. 

Resources

SGA provides a number of free resources for the student body’s access. Some of these resources are:

  • Tampons/Maxi-pads
  • Scantrons and bluebooks
  • Test-My-Drink cards
  • Social, relaxing area (Netflix, YouTube)
  • Water/snacks

Student Government Branches

Executive Branch

The Executive Branch comprises the student body president and vice president. The president signs or vetoes Senate bills and resolutions. These executives advocate on behalf of students to the university administration and attend quarterly University of Texas System Student Advisory Council meetings in Austin.

Legislative Branch

The Legislative Branch comprises the SGA Senate and facilitates the writing and passage of campus-wide initiatives in the form of resolutions and bills. Senators are elected by their peers to represent their respective academic colleges and classifications.

Judicial Branch

The Supreme Court presiding over the Student Traffic Court and Conduct Board constitutes the Judicial Branch of SGA. It also serves as the presiding body for interpreting the SGA Constitution in cases of alleged organizational violations. The Supreme Court often also rules in student conduct cases not associated with SGA.
