No application is needed. Funds are automatically applied to those who qualify based on eligibility requirements.

Where can I find dates and deadlines?

See our Important Dates and Deadlines page for applicants and current students.

Eligibility

Who is eligible for the Purple Promise program?

Purple Promise is available only to first-time, first-year students and first-time transfer students who are enrolled full time and meet all eligibility requirements.

Are first-year students who start in spring eligible for Purple Promise?

First-time, first-year students and first-time transfer students must initially enroll at SFA as a degree-seeking student for summer or fall. The Purple Promise program does not cover tuition and fees for summer semesters.

Are transfer students eligible for Purple Promise?

Yes, first-time transfer students are eligible. Advanced placement or dual credit that counts toward the degree and courses taken in the summer preceding SFA enrollment will not prevent consideration of first-time students.

Are students who are not eligible to file the FAFSA eligible for Purple Promise?

No, SFA's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships must receive your valid FAFSA to award Purple Promise funding.

If I lose eligibility for Purple Promise, can I requalify?

If you lose Purple Promise eligibility because you did not complete at least 30 credit hours each consecutive academic year (including summer terms) with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, you cannot requalify in future years. If you lose Purple Promise eligibility due to an increase in your combined family adjusted gross income, you can qualify in future years if the adjusted gross income becomes $100,000 or less and you continue to meet all other criteria.

Note: Renewal requirements are specific to the funding source and differ from other scholarships and grants you may receive.

Do credits earned while in high school or at other schools count toward renewal requirements?

Only credit earned at SFA as a degree-seeking students counts toward the 30 credit hours each academic year in fall, spring and summer semesters.

Can I re-qualify if my Purple Promise funding wasn't renewed?

If Purple Promise eligibility was lost due to your combined family adjusted gross income increasing to the amount of $100,001 or more, you can re-qualify in future years if the adjusted gross income becomes $100,000 or less and you continue to meet all other criteria. Visit the Satisfactory Academic Progress page to learn how to submit a financial aid appeal.

Can I take classes at SFA during the summer to meet the renewal requirements?

Yes. You may add credit hours you earn not covered by Purple Promise at SFA during the summer term(s) to the total credit hours you earned for the preceding fall and spring terms.

Changes in enrollment

What if I drop a course or withdraw from the university?

A change in your enrollment status may prevent you from meeting the required 30 credit hours and impact your eligibility. Discuss any changes with your academic advisor and contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to understand your financial options.
