Updates for 2020 Lumberjack Orientation:

Incoming first-year students will attend a required two-part Orientation – virtual Orientation and Jack Camp Orientation. Virtual Orientation consists of academic advising, course registration and academic success videos. Jack Camp Orientation is a four-day, on-campus program developed specifically as an adjustment to COVID-19. Be part of the excitement and join thousands of incoming students attending Orientation!

Attending Jack Camp Orientation allows you to:

  • become familiar with campus
  • learn more about your academic major and minor
  • meet your academic dean, academic advisor, faculty and administration
  • meet new and current students and learn from others' experiences
  • and be more prepared for your first day, first year and college experience.

Jack Camp Orientation dates: Aug. 16 to 19

Registration Details

Log in to mySFA and locate the registration details on the Orientation tab. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email through mySFA. Additional details regarding Jack Camp Orientation will be emailed throughout the summer, so check your student email regularly.

Cost: $140/student
Included: attendance for up to two guests, Jack Camp Orientation T-shirt, publications and materials, programming and administrative costs

Move-in and Schedule

Move-In:

  • 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 13 - 15
  • 8 a.m. to Noon Sunday, Aug. 16

To choose the date and time of your move-in:

  1. Log in to mySFA.
  2. Select the "Campus Life" tab.
  3. Locate the "Residence Life" block.
  4. Select the "Schedule Move In" link.

Destination SFA: Sibling Orientation

Destination SFA, our unique Orientation event for siblings of incoming freshmen, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, both virtually and in person. Through this program, we want to answer questions young siblings may have about college and what it can do for them while also highlighting all SFA has to offer. We welcome siblings going into middle school (age 11-13) and high school (age 14-17). Destination SFA is going to be AXE-cellent!

Cost: $25/sibling
Included: T-shirt, axe handle and lunch.
Note: Siblings attending virtually will receive the T-shirt by mail, but the axe handle must be picked up on campus by the SFA student related to them.

Orientation for Parent/Family Member

Our unique Parent/Family Member Orientation will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, both virtually and in person. During this program, we want to be sure all your family members’ questions are answered. Topics to be discussed include:

  • coaching your student to success
  • college financial preparation
  • University Police Department and campus safety
  • getting involved at SFA
  • and many more!

Canceling your registration

Removing registration holds

Once you are registered for Jack Camp Orientation 2020, the Orientation hold will be removed. Check your student account for any other holds that you may have and get those taken care of before registering for courses.

Academic advising and course registration will take place throughout the summer. You will hear from your advisor no later than June 1 to make an advising appointment for fall 2020 courses. Once advised, you will be able to register for your classes.

A course registration help desk will be available to students via Zoom that will assist you in registering for fall 2020 courses. You can access this resource through mySFA under the Orientation tab.

What if I cannot attend Jack Camp Orientation? (First-Year only)

Can family members to attend Jack Camp Orientation? (First-Year only)

Our team will have events for family and high-school-aged siblings Sunday, Aug. 16. The student fee covers attendance for up to two guests.

Can transfer students attend Jack Camp Orientation?

Yes!

  • Transfer students interested in participating in Jack Camp Orientation should call the orientation office at 936.468.6641 to register.
  • The program costs $140 and includes housing, meals, publications and materials, programming, administrative costs and attendance for two guests at the parent/family member orientation program.
  • You can charge this fee to your SFA account if needed.

How do I charge my orientation fee to my SFA account?

Email the orientation office at orientation@sfasu.edu and request the fee be placed on your SFA account. The office staff will reach out with additional steps.

If I already paid for orientation, what happens to the payment?

The fee will roll over to cover the costs of Jack Camp Orientation. If you paid for guests prior to the orientation schedule changes, a credit will be placed on your SFA account and reflected on your e-bill.

If I haven’t taken the TSI test, what should I do?

Contact the TSI coordinator in the Student Success Center to verify your TSI testing requirements. If you are required to take the TSI Assessment, you must submit scores before you are eligible to register for classes. TSI testing is available online, and limited in-person testing is available on the SFA campus. Contact Testing Services for in-person testing availability at 936.468.3958 or sfatesting@sfasu.edu.

I took the TSI. Where do I send my scores?

Email TSI scores or other TSI documentation to tsi@sfasu.edu. If you do not have access to your scores, call the Student Success Center.

If you have tested more than once, check that SFA has your highest scores on file. Scores may be viewed on your mySFA account. Select the Advising tab and click on “View Test Scores.” Call 936.468.5803 to speak with the TSI coordinator.

How do I take care of the holds on my account?

  1. View holds on your mySFA account under the Registration tab.
  2. Click each specific hold for contact information, and contact the department for further instructions on how to remove the hold.
  3. The orientation hold will be removed once you have registered for Jack Camp Orientation.

When can I register for classes?

You can register for classes once you have met with your advisor via Zoom or phone to discuss which classes to take.

What if I don’t know how to register?

A virtual course registration help desk is available for you to access from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The link is located on your mySFA account under the Orientation tab.

When do new students move in?

Visit Residence Life’s New Resident Information page and view their key dates for details on move-in.

When do classes start?

SFA classes begin Monday, Aug. 24.
