Welcome, new Lumberjacks!

We're so excited to have you join our campus family and look forward to helping you and your family transition to life at SFA. Orientation is a great time to explore our campus resources, connect with students and faculty members in your academic major, and prepare for your college experience.

All first-year students must register for Orientation programs. Transfer students are encouraged to also register!

Orientation programs

Lumberjack Orientation: June and July 2026

While you're attending Orientation, expect to learn more about your academic program, meet your dean, advisor, faculty and staff members within your academic program, interact with other Lumberjacks, explore campus resources and prepare for life as a Lumberjack!

Checklist before Orientation

Secure your spot.

Registration opens late January for the upcoming summer sessions. Sign up through the Orientation page in your mySFA account as soon as you can to secure your preferred date. Orientation and Lumberjack Life are a bundled registration. 

  • Cost: $140
  • Includes registration, lunch, publications and materials for Orientation and Lumberjack Life.

After you register:

  1. Send in all documents required by SFA offices.
  2. Meet with your academic advisor.
  3. Clear your registration holds.
  4. Submit a photo through mySFA for your campus ID.

While you're attending Orientation, expect to:

  • learn more about your academic program.
  • meet your dean, advisor, faculty and staff members within your academic program.
  • interact with other Lumberjacks.
  • explore campus resources and prepare for life as a Lumberjack!

Bringing family? Read about family orientation options

Occurring in tandem with Lumberjack Orientation, we offer two types of family orientations. 

Destination SFA Orientation

  • Cost: $65 per sibling entering 6-12 grade
  • Middle- and high-school siblings! Attending this special orientation with other Lumberjack siblings offers a taste of college life. These sessions are designed to be fun, educational and sure to send you home with a deeper love for purple.

Guest Orientation

  • Cost: $50 per adult guest, $40 per child guest
  • Sessions are specifically designed to help you support your student. We want to be sure all your questions are answered! Topics typically discussed include coaching your student to success, college financial preparation, campus safety and getting involved at SFA.

Registering for a family orientation

Registration fee includes lunch, publications and materials.

To register, select the appropriate add-on option during Lumberjack Orientation registration. Note: If you want to add family orientation to your schedule after your student has registered for Lumberjack Orientation, they can complete your registration and payment through their mySFA account.

Lumberjack Life: Aug. 21, 2026

Lumberjack Life is a signature student event that kicks off SFA's Weeks of Welcome!

Get settled in and participate in the academic convocation, class of 2030 photo, small-group meetings, campus traditions and receive your very first axe handle!
