Forestry is an ideal path for those interested in managing, protecting and conserving renewable natural resources. Our students master the biological, physical and social sciences through hands-on learning, state-of-the-art equipment and access to 12 million acres of forests.

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Forestry are required to select a concentration from the options below:

  • NOBEL PRIZE WINNER. LUMBERJACK.

    Prior to winning a Nobel Prize for her role in authoring the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s fourth assessment report, Dr. Virginia Burkett was a student pursuing a Ph.D. in forestry from SFA. Now, as chief scientist for climate and land use change for the U.S. Geological Survey, Burkett delivers scientific leadership for a number of USGS programs related to climate research.

  • Jake Hill

    Jake Hill

    Jake was named the 2019 Outstanding Student by the SFA Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society. He is currently working to establish a conservation leadership program for high school students.

  • Josué Gonzáles

    Josué Gonzáles

    As a forestry graduate student, Josué is conducting comprehensive economic and feasibility analyses of conservation methods being implemented around the world that may be successfully applied in Costa Rica.

  • Julia Schmidt

    Julia Schmidt

    Forest wildlife management student Julia Schmidt is president of Kappa Delta Chi, and she has been named to both the SFA Dean’s and President’s Lists. Julia hopes to work in conservation education programming.
