The SFA Steel Band

The SFA Steel Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in Cole Concert Hall, located in the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Steel Band, also known as Jacks of Steel, directed by Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies, will present the ensemble's annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The Jacks of Steel will perform a wide-ranging selection of fun and exciting tunes, including Brian Nozny's arrangement of "Inspector 8" (from the The Ernies' popular ska song), "Brown-eyed Girl," "Guantanamera," and "Hot Hot Hot."

"This concert will be a great 'pick-me-up' for students to get the motivation and energy to tackle the final weeks of classes," Meyer said. "The concert is also perfect for parents and their children, as it will only last about 30 minutes, and we always encourage the audience to participate by singing and dancing along with the music."

SFA's Steel Band is comprised of 16 music and non-music majors playing Caribbean steel pans (leads, double seconds and cellos pans), as well as an engine room comprised of drumset, electric bass and accessory percussion instruments.

The Jack's of Steel are available to perform at private and public events. For more information, contact Meyer at meyerbe@sfasu.edu. The event will be streamed live at http://www.music.sfasu.edu/stream.php
