NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host a garden seminar, "Everything You Wanted to Know About Grass, But Were Afraid to Ask," from 9 a.m. until noon July 23 in Room 118 of the Agriculture Building at 1924 Wilson Dr.

Greg Grant, horticulturist, author and SFA Gardens research associate for garden outreach, will discuss all aspects of growing lawns in East Texas including species selection, sunlight requirements, mowing, fertilization, insects, diseases and other options to consider. Grant has experience with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, Lone Star Growers, the San Antonio Botanic Garden, and Mercer Arboretum.

The co-author of "Heirloom Gardening in the South" and "Home Landscaping Texas," Grant recently authored a book titled "In Greg's Garden, A Pineywoods Perspective on Gardening Nature and Family" for the Kindle electronic reading device. He writes regularly for Texas Gardener and Neil Sperry's Gardens magazines and has a monthly gardening blog at arborgate.com.
