NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of "A Young Lady of Property" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 26, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.

The one-act play was written by Horton Foote, best known for his Academy Award-winning screenplay for "To Kill a Mockingbird."

"A Young Lady of Property" focuses on Wilma Thompson, a 15-year-old girl living in a small Texas town in 1930s, explained Lumberton senior Tabitha Cahanin, the play's director. "It is an endearing story in which Wilma discovers herself and where she belongs."

Mesquite freshman Mai Le portrays Wilma. Other principal roles are played by Krum junior Makayle Alexander, Irving freshman Kat Edwards, Mesquite freshman Emily Gibson and Ennis junior Keidrick Goss.

Aeric Hansen, Maypearl junior, serves as the assistant director, and Sugar Land junior Katrina Tarson is the stage manager.

Previously at SFA Cahanin directed "The Battle of Bull Run Always Makes Me Cry" and served as the assistant stage manager for "Twelfth Night." She portrayed Mrs. Potts in "Picnic" and worked with the School of Theatre's Junior Jack Acting Camp and its High School Summer Theatre Workshop.

Cahanin will graduate in May and plans on becoming a high school teacher.
