NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts, School of Music and Cole Performing Arts Series will present Duo Karudan, a duet featuring clarinetist Dr. Christopher Ayer and pianist Dr. Kae Hosoda-Ayer at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in Cole Concert Hall.

"We will open the recital with Bohuslav Martinu's 'Sonatina,' followed by two short, charming works by French composer Ida Gotkovsky and the short 'Sonatina' by Polish composer Antoni Szalowski that is full of rhythmic vitality with charming melodies and interesting harmonic twists," Ayer explained.

The second half of the program will be devoted to works by American composers.

"We will close with 'Sonata' by the incomparable Leonard Bernstein," Ayer said. "Before that, however, we will play James E. David's 'E-Type Jag,' a driving, rhythmic work that is representative of the automobile it portrays, and Simon Sargon's 'KlezMuzik,' written in the Klezmer style."

At SFA, Ayer coordinates undergraduate and graduate clarinet study and performs with the Stone Fort Wind Quintet. He has presented clarinet clinics and been an adjudicator throughout the United States and Canada and has presented lectures and performances at the annual conferences of the International Clarinet Association.
