NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will present a free one-night film screening of "King Corn: You Are What You Eat" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

In "King Corn," two recent college graduates move to Iowa and plant an acre of corn in an effort to discover where America's food comes from. But when they try to follow their pile of corn into the food system, what they find raises troubling questions about how Americans eat and how they farm.

"We selected this film because of its relevance to "Eats & Treats," an exhibition of photography and soft sculptures now on display in the Ledbetter Gallery," said Christian Cutler, director of SFA galleries. "Aaron Wolf's 90-minute documentary goes hand-in-hand with Mark Menjivar's pictures of refrigerator interiors across the nation and Mindy Sue Meyers' sculptures of sweets and pastries. All three artists are exploring the effects food has on our population."

"Eats & Treats" will run through Saturday, Aug. 29. Summer gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The film is a co-presentation of the SFA College of Fine Arts, School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131.
