NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are now being accepted for an all-day felting and non-traditional embroidery workshop with visiting artist Mindy Sue Meyers on Friday, March 27, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

The 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. workshop will begin with a short lecture by Meyers, followed by lessons on techniques she uses in creating her artwork. A one-hour lunch break is included in the schedule.

According to Meyers' Web site, http://mindysuemeyers.blogspot.com/, the sculptural sweets and pastries she makes from fabric and household objects explore themes related to indulgence, temptation, comfort and security.

The techniques of stitching felt or carefully mixing pigment and spackle relate to the processes involved in baking, Meyers explained on her blog. "Although I cannot taste my creations, it offers me the same consolation to stitch and stack as it would to slice and consume. I draw inspiration from vintage cookbooks, Betty Crocker, and Martha Stewart."

Class size is limited to 15, and the $40 registration fee includes all necessary supplies. To reserve a place in the workshop, contact Christian Cutler, director of SFA galleries, at (936) 468-1131.

The workshop is a presentation of the art metal/jewelry area of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the SFA art galleries. The Cole Art Center is located at 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.
