NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts, School of Art and University Series will open "Cutting Fine, Cutting Deep: Cut Paper Works from Switzerland and North America" at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in Griffith Gallery on the SFA campus.

The silhouettes, dioramas, paper lacework, pop-up drawings and complex symmetrical designs included in this exhibition draw upon traditional papercutting techniques performed by five artists from the Swiss scherenschnitt (scissor cutting) tradition and six contemporary artists from North America, explained Christian Cutler, director of SFA galleries.

"All of the works are explorations of human interrelationships with the natural and man-made world," Cutler continued.

The opening will include a talk by the exhibition's curator, Julie Püttgen, assistant professor of art at Sewanee: The University of the South, and a reception hosted by Nacogdoches Junior Forum.

The exhibition, which continues through Sunday, Feb. 8, is sponsored in part by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts, Nacogdoches Junior Forum, Pro-Helvetia, The Swiss Consulate General in Atlanta, Kuehne & Nagel and Sewanee: The University of the South.
