"Yellow House," a Type C-Print by Lynn Saville, will be included in "Lynn Saville: Night Vision" which will open at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open "Lynn Saville: Night Vision" with a 6 p.m. reception Friday, Oct. 3, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

Saville, a New York-based photographer, will be present to give a gallery talk on her luminous photographs. Educated at Duke University and Pratt Institute, Saville specializes in photography of both cities and rural settings at twilight and dawn, or as she describes it, "the boundary times between night and day."

Her photographs are in the permanent art collections of major museums, corporations and individuals.

After the opening, Saville will lead a night photography workshop in and around downtown Nacogdoches. She will discuss the basic techniques of photographing at twilight and night as participants photograph views from the square, Eugenia Sterne Park, historic buildings and street scenes.

"Whether you are a beginner or expert, use a digital or film camera, you are welcome to register for the session and learn from this accomplished artist and teacher," said Christian Cutler, director of SFA galleries.

The workshop is limited to 30 participants, and the cost is $40. A tripod and cable release are recommended but not required. To register, call Cutler at (936) 468-1131.

"Lynn Saville: Night Vision" is sponsored in part by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts, Nacogdoches Junior Forum and Sherwin Williams. The exhibition will run through Friday, Dec. 12.

Regular gallery hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Admission to the opening and gallery is free. For more information, please call (936) 468-1131.
