Academic Opportunity program: extenuating circumstances

The Academic Opportunity Program is designed to identify first-semester freshman students who did not meet the admission requirements as a result of significant extenuating circumstances. The program is limited to a small number of students who provide adequate documentation with regard to their extenuating circumstance.

How to apply

The AOP application is available online or through the Office of Admissions. Complete applications will be reviewed on a continuing basis for the fall and spring semesters. Applications must be received by the Office of Admissions no later than five business days prior to the first day of classes.

Transfer option

First-semester freshmen not meeting admission requirements may attend an accredited community college or four-year university to gain admission to SFA for a future semester. Students who successfully complete at least 15 semester hours of transferable work after high school graduation with a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale will be eligible for admission to SFA. Applicants will need to reapply for admission to SFA for the desired semester and submit official college transcript(s).
