Fostering Academic & Co-Curricular Innovation
To respond to the realities of higher education today and to serve the needs of students tomorrow, we must foster both academic and co-curricular innovation. To facilitate this imperative, several working teams are currently investigating initial strategies in areas that emerged during the strategic planning process. As the plan matures additional strategies will emerge and be explored by teams of faculty, staff and students.
Recommendations Implemented
- The Student Success Center was launched in May 2016 after the University College Exploratory Committee's recommendation that a unit be created to enhance student retention, graduation, and time to completion rates.
- In Spring 2016, the Teaching & Learning Advancement Team recommended that additional funds be set aside to enhance a number of classrooms with flexible furniture and/or additional technology. To date, more than 18 classrooms have been enhanced.
- At the recommendation of the Career Development Integration Team, Career Services has been re-named the Center for Career and Professional Development to better reflect its role in integrating career development into all years of a student's experience with us.
- A new Lumberjack GROW (Guided Reflection on Work) program designed to help promote student learning from on-campus employment launched in Fall 2016.
- A marketing campaign entitled "Your Most Important Project in College is YOU" was undertaken in Fall 2016 to promote the development of soft skills to students and faculty.
- Thanks to collaboration between two divisions, a coordinator of financial literacy activities has been hired.
