Dean, Arthur Temple College of Forestry & Agriculture

“I can only say that I view it (education) as the most important subject which we as a people can be engaged in.” – Abraham Lincoln, March 9, 1832.

What drew you to the higher education world?

I was fortunate to have been mentored by outstanding professors while earning my degrees. Their approach to teaching and advising was different, but their passion to serve students, promote a learning culture and make contributions to knowledge was the same. Their example led me to pursue a career in higher education.

What do you enjoy most about your role at SFA?

I enjoy working with my colleagues to inspire undergraduate and graduate students toward achieving their career aspirations. I can’t wait to get to work each day because each day is unique. I take great satisfaction thinking that I may have contributed, even in a small way, to the professional and personal success of our alumni.

What do you hope students gain from SFA?

Through the inspiration of the faculty, I hope students gain a healthy skepticism resulting in a lifelong passion for learning.

What are you passionate about outside of your role at SFA?

I am still passionate about learning all things related to trees. Because of their adaptability, I still believe they are the most remarkable organisms that occupy the earth. I am also passionate about mowing the lawn because that is when I do my best thinking.
