Vice President and General Counsel
What drew you to the higher education world?
My first year of law school I had the opportunity to meet with the general counsel of a university. After my initial realization that universities even had lawyers on-campus, I quickly realized that this is the type of environment I would want to work in. I believe the field of higher education is, at its core, about service to others and preparing the next generation to enter into broader society. This mission strongly resonates with me.
What do you enjoy most about your role at SFA?
The practice of higher education law allows for a truly generalist style of practice. I am presented with issues from every field of law imaginable, and every day presents a new opportunity and challenge. I am extremely fortunate to work with professionals dedicated to the education and success of future generations, which provides for a very rewarding career.
What do you hope students gain from SFA?
Personal growth and maturity. College is about more than just education; it is a time of personal growth and maturity. I hope our students are able to discover more about themselves and grow into independent young adults, ready for the challenges that life will inevitably bring.
What are you passionate about outside of your role at SFA?
My wife and children come first in my life, and I am very involved with my church. I enjoy traveling and experiencing cultures that are much different from my own. I believe the best education a person can receive is gained through direct exposure to other cultures and speaking with the individuals in that community. I would be remiss if I did not mention my passion for anything Star Wars – movies, books, tv shows, etc. I just can’t get enough of it.
