The dynamic student ambassador program is designed to provide exceptional students with the opportunity to represent SFA at special events and official gatherings, acting as the face of the university under the direction of the Office of the President. First aid safety certification classes open to the public
Become American Red Cross-certified in first aid, CPR and automated external defibrillators through Campus Recreation's monthly Saturday class. Open to Campus Rec members and nonmembers, participants are trained to respond effectively in emergency situations and provide care for adults, children and infants. The next class is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, and registration ends Monday, March 17.
Business students advance to national competition after earning state-level top honors
We’re proud to share Rusche College of Business students Jessica Frasier and Julian Ieva earned top honors in finance and public speaking at the Texas Future Business Leaders of America Collegiate State Leadership Conference. They will now advance to the FBLA National Leadership Conference in May. Sharp minds, big wins — that’s just good business! 🤝
Men’s track and field team brings home SLC championship
The SFA men’s track and field team are Southland Conference champions! The team earned a total of 124 points — 31 points more than the second-place team — during the 2025 SLC Indoor Track and Field Championship competitions in Birmingham, Alabama. Among the highlights: first-year student Elkana Kipruto won the men's 5000 meters by almost 20 seconds, and junior Bryson Williams placed first in the triple jump with a 15.60-meter jump. Congratulations, 'Jacks!
McClure-Franklin Family Scholarship awards first recipient
The McClure-Franklin Family Scholarship is one of SFA’s newest endowments and benefits students from rural East Texas by awarding up to $5,000 annually. The inaugural recipient, Callie Parmer, is from Woden, Texas, and expects to graduate this May with a bachelor’s degree in business. Scholarships like these allow Lumberjacks the opportunity to receive financial assistance without the burden of repayment. Learn more about applying for SFA’s scholarships!

AXEcepted Day sessions are one-day orientation events offered during the summer to help you learn more about campus resources, connect with your academic department and make preparations before you return for Lumberjack Life, the extended orientation session scheduled just before the fall semester begins. The Axe Handle

SFA freshmen receive an axe handle to personalize with their own Lumberjack spirit. Students can be seen (and heard) banging axe handles on the bleachers at SFA football games.

Ole Cotton

Ole Cotton is an imposing 75mm cannon that fires a celebratory shot every time the SFA Lumberjack football team scores. The SFA ROTC cadets man Ole Cotton just beyond the south end zone at Homer Bryce Stadium. The powerful blast can be heard – and often felt – all over town.

The Homecoming Bonfire

SFA's traditional bonfire and pep rally are the centerpieces of homecoming. Usually held in October, homecoming is a series of traditions that bring Lumberjacks together to celebrate SFA. Other events include homecoming elections, downtown parade, football games and much more.

Purple Haze

Press play to hear our rowdy Purple Haze student section in action. At SFA’s home football games, fans in the student section loudly bang their axe handles on a metal “Purple Haze” sign to show support for our beloved Lumberjacks (and to rattle the opposing team). Now that’s a home-field advantage!

Preliminary data for Stephen F. Austin State University shows encouraging trends across multiple areas, including enrollment, retention and student interest. The spring Showcase Saturday, which invites prospective students and their families to experience life as a Lumberjack, saw the highest attendance in the university’s history.

Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Music has launched the Elliott String Quartet Fellowship, a new graduate-level opportunity designed to attract top-tier string musicians and enhance the university’s orchestral program. The fellowship will begin in fall 2025 and provide competitive financial support to selected graduate students pursuing a Master of Music in performance or a performing artist certificate.
